우리는 도하에서 요르단 암만으로 비행기로 이동하여 암만에서 1박하고 이른 아침에 요르단 이스라엘 국경을 넘기로 했다.
그리고 이스라엘을 5일 정도 둘러보고 다시 국경을 넘어 암만으로 들어오는 일정을 잡았다.
엄청 빡세고 돈이 많이 드는 일정이지만 그 동안 모르는 미지의 세계에 대해 눈의 띄였다는 점에서 굉장히 만족할만한 일정이었다.
새벽 6시에 일어나 암만 시내에서 택시를 타고 국경으로 이동하였다.
오전 일정은 성공적으로 국경넘기.
이스라엘과 이슬람 국가인 요르단을 넘는 여정은 좀 긴장이 되었다.
요르단에서 이스라엘로 이동하기 위해서는 반드시 King Hussein Border Crossing을 통해서 가야한다.
그리고 보더 운영 시간이 있으니 반드시 시간을 확인하고 가야한다. 가령 무슬림의 휴일은 금요일에는 국경이 문을 닫는다. 특정 시간에는 오전만 오픈한다.

이른 새벽에 암만에서 택시를 타고 킹후세인 보더 크로싱으로 이동
보더에서 국경 넘는 돈을 내고 짐을 부친다.
그리고 체크인하는 곳에 여권을 맡겨야 한다.
국경 심사대에 들어가는 입구.
생각보다 경계가 삼엄하지 않다.
심사대는 다음과 같이 요르단 사람이 사용하는 창구와 관광객이 사용하는 창구가 다르다.
다행히 한국에서 오는 성지순례 그룹이 많아서
한국 관광객들에게는 너그럽다.
우리도 별 문제 없이 통과를 하고 여권을 맡겼다.
밖에서 기다리면 전용 셔틀버스가 온다. 버스에 짐을 맡기고 승차하면 이제 이스라엘 국경을 넘는다.
정말 허름한 버스.
한 20여분 가더니 다리를 넘는다. 다리를 넘자마자 세관이 나오고 얼마가지 않아 이스라엘측 국경심사대애 도착한다.

안쪽은 경비가 삼엄하여 사진을 찍을 수가 없다.
여기서 에피소드가 생겼는데
경비가 삼엄하다보니...모든 물건은 쥐잡듯 샅샅이 검사한다.
우리는 도하에서 공수해온 김치가 있었는데 랩핑을 하고 테이핑을 하고 보자기로 둘둘 쌓아서 국경을 넘었다.
이스라엘 경찰이 이 김치를 수상히 여기고 열어보라고 한다.
난 분명 경고를 했다.
"This is Kimchi, a fermented cabbage, and it smells really bad"
이스라엘 경찰은 그래도 상관없다는 듯 김치 박스를 가져가 칼로 포장을 뜯고 뚜껑을 열었다.
이윽고 미간이 찌푸리며 토할 것 같은 표정을 짓는다. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
그리고 나에게 바로 김치를 넘겨주면서 한마디 한다.
경찰:
"Are you eating this?"
나: "Why not? we eat this every day. I told you it smells bad"
너무너무 재미있었다.
웃음을 꾹 참고 있다 국경 검사대를 나와서 박장대소를 했다.

Detail steps from Jordan to IsraelStep- by- step process for crossing from Jordan to Jerusalem across the Allenby/ King Hussein Border Crossing:1. Arrival at the Jordanian terminal:
After arriving on the Jordanian side, make sure you go to the tourist terminal. At first window the agent examines your passport. If you owe the departure tax, you will pay it at the next window (10 JOD pp, approx 15 US$). If you entered Jordan that day or the day before, the departure tax will be exempted- subject to change). After immigration, you leave your passport and go out and get on the shuttle bus and wait until departure. The Jordanian agent brings the passports to each person personally on the bus when they are finished processing them. You will pay 7 JOD pp, (10 US$ subject to change), plus 1.5 JOD pp, (2 US$ subject to change) per each bag you need to put under the bus shuttle.
2. Shuttle Bus between border Terminals:
The last distance between Jordan and Israel is crossed by the shuttle bus which is around 5 Km. The bus leaves until it is full, so you have to wait a while before it moves. Please note that there is a VIP service available for the crossing that alleges to save you time. The price is 110 US$ pp, (approx 78 JOD) and the process takes you through on both immigration on both side.
3. Arrival at the Israeli Terminal:
The bus stops and everything is unloaded in front of the Israeli terminal. On the Israeli side, you will give your passport to a porter who will give it to a security person. Your passport and luggage will be checked (you leave your luggage there and collect it at the very end of the process again). Then you will be given your passport back with a sticker on it indicating the number of checked luggage you have. You will go through the metal detector for a body scans and passport check combined. You then enter to the immigration hall and go to the immigration booths for tourists. An Israeli immigration officer will give you a small piece of paper with your photo and details on it and you must carry it with your passport during your stay in Israel. Please note that this system is to replace the stamp in your passport.
After the immigration booths, there is another passport check. Finally, you walk out to the hall where you can see a collection of checked and discharged luggage on the ground. Collect your luggage and continue past the customs counter and out of the terminal.
